BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The Bossier Parish Police Jury has set a date for voters to decide whether a new casino will be built on the Red River.  In a unanimous vote Wednesday afternoon, the police jury approved of holding a special election on November, 19th.

Paradise Casino plans to build a Jimmy Buffet-branded "Margaritaville" casino hotel and pavilion on the parking lot portion of a city-owned landfill between Bass Pro Shop on the Louisiana Boardwalk and a proposed David Toms golf course.

There are still several hurdles before the area could see a sixth boat. Paradise Casino, LLC must present their economic impact and market studies to the Louisiana Gaming Board in July before being considered for approval of a "change of berth" for their license.  If the license change is approved, the proposal will go before the voters.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
