NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County authorities are searching for a suspect who fled officers following a marijuana bust in a field off of FM 3228.

Constable Jason Bridges arrested one suspect, Primitizo Dijar, 36, at the location, but the second, a Hispanic man, fled the scene, Sheriff Thomas Kerss said. Authorities were still searching for him as of 8 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff's deputies are assisting in the manhunt. Kerss said because the location is in the bottoms of the Shawnee River, the suspect would have to travel a long distance before making contact with anyone.

Bridges said an adjacent landowner reported suspicious activity in the area and contacted authorities. Bridges said he and officials with the Texas Parks & Wildlife walked through the woods on Friday and came upon a field of marijuana, which was at least three acres with plants six feet tall.

Bridges said they found the campsite with two Mexican nationals. That was when one ran away.

"These were just workers growing the plants," Bridges said. "Someone else owns the land. He ran away on foot with no shirt and shoes and he doesn't have a vehicle so he won't be able to get very far."

Bridges said a DPS search helicopter was on the way to the scene to locate the suspect.

Bridges said law officers were setting up a perimeter around the area and would guard it overnight before doing a more aggressive search in the morning.

The identity of either suspect had not been released as of 8 p.m. Dijar is charged with manufacturing of marijuana.

Kerss said anyone who sees or comes in contact with the suspect should call 911 or contact the sheriff's office at 936-560-7793.
