SABINE CO., TX (KTRE) – No rest for firefighters on this Saturday as lightning sparks a wildfire on private property about four miles east of Milam.
"The fire looks to have been caused by a lightning strike. There were no injuries, no loss of homes or property, other than the timberland," said Dennis "Denny" McCarthy, Public Information Officer for the Texas Forest Service.
Firefighters got the call for help about 11:45 Saturday morning and managed to contain and extinguish the fire by 3 p.m., but not before it consumed about 15 acres of forestland. "It was on the northside of Rt. 21, about four miles east of Milam, on private land, in the middle of U.S. forestland," McCarthy said.
Volunteers from Shamrock Shores and Pendleton Harbor helped Texas Forest Service firefighters on the call.
