DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) – Diboll Police, DPS and Lufkin EMS crews are on the scene of a major accident involving an overturned tanker truck.
According to a Diboll dispatcher, the tanker truck overturned in the parking lot of the Chevron Station on the northside of Diboll. A substance, possibly some type of oil, spilled. It is believed as much as 300 gallons of the substance leaked from the tanker into the roadway, causing the southbound lanes of highway 59 to be closed. The substance is not believed to be flammable, however, haz-mat crews have been called in to clean it up.
Shortly after 9 Saturday night, officers opened back up one lane of southbound traffic and traffic is said to be flowing smoothly. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution while traveling in the area.
At this time, the material from the tanker truck has not been identified and police have not indicated if anyone was hurt in the accident. Diboll police are investigating and have not said what happened to cause the tanker to overturn.
