LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County District Attorney's Office dropped a charge against a Diboll man accused of having an illegal rifle.
Lufkin Police arrested William Shea Holeman, 18, in November after he was caught with two other men burglarizing vehicles on Lufkin streets.
Police found Holeman to be the driver of the suspect vehicle and also found a modified rifle, with a shortened barrel and stock, in the vehicle.
Holeman has since been sentenced to probation on the misdemeanor burglary charge and was about to be tried by District Judge Barry Bryan on Monday, before learning Monday morning that the felony charge of possession of a prohibited weapon would be dropped.
Prosecutor Layne Thompson said no fingerprints were found on the gun and an alibi witness said Holeman was in the front seat, while the gun was in the back passenger seat. He explained there was no evidence to prove Holeman was in possession of the gun.
