LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Two Lufkin roommates are finalists in a national competition after showing off their superpowers.
Aaron Harlan and his roommate, Michael Tubbs, have worked on several school projects together for SFA. However, their newest venture could land them $10,000 and a year of free rent.
"We were just sitting around trying to come up with ideas and he was like oh this is perfect, you know," Harlan said. "I'm bald, Lex Luther, you'll be the superhero, Superman type character, so that's what we went with."
After two days of shooting and editing a short film, the Lufkin roommates submitted their work to Apartments.com.
They're now a finalist for the roommate of the year contest.
"Vacuuming, I make art in the carpet I'm so good," he says in the video.
"I guess sometimes when I'm vacuuming I try and draw stuff just because it's a boring task, so you try to make it as interesting as possible," Harlan said.
While some of it may be over the top, Harlan said they took the superhero approach because they wanted to make people laugh.
"Late for work, school, an interview?" he asks in the video. "Just hop on, I'm like Seabiscuit. I'll get you there quick."
"We had a lot of fun and we were laughing the whole time, but in front of the camera it was hard to not just break down and laugh," Harlan said.
The Waco native said he met his roommate in graduate school at SFA.
Harlan needed a place to live for the summer and Tubbs and his wife opened up their home, so if they win, they'll split the $10,000 evenly.
"I had a lot of fun and it's been a good experience," Harlan said.
Harlan plans to move into an apartment in Nacogdoches next month, hoping his roommate superpowers will get him a little extra cash in his superhero pockets.
