LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to steal an air compressor in August.

Miguel Angel Mijares, 41, agreed to a 10-year probated sentence on the felony theft charge.

According to police, Mijares and another man, Jose Ismael Bermudez, 41, were arrested after trying to steal an air compressor from the open bed of a truck outside of a business located at 1121 Abney Avenue.

The report stated that a witness saw the two thieves and told the owner. The owner confronted the suspects and recovered the air compressor, then the suspects walked away.

Officers located Mijares and Bermudez in the area. Each have prior convictions for theft so the charge was enhanced to a State Jail Felony.

Bermudez accepted a six-month state jail sentence in August.
