LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man pleaded guilty to hitting and running a vehicle in Lufkin in November 2010.

Alfredo Jose Martinez, 18, might have gotten away with the crime had he not left his license plate behind.

Instead, Martinez accepted two five-year probation sentences.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Alfredo Jose Martinez, 18, hit the car of Lester Murphy Jr., 20, at the intersection of Frank Street and Bonner Street on Oct. 31. Martinez hit it hard enough to force Murphy's car to spin completely around.

Witnesses at the wreck told Lufkin Police that it was a hit-and-run accident and police recovered a license plate that fell off the suspect vehicle and matched it up to a woman living in Martinez's home.

Police visited the home of the woman on Nov. 2 and Martinez admitted to hitting the car by accident and fleeing the scene because he did not have a driver's license and had an outstanding citation.
