LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man came to district court Thursday afternoon after a stay at a maximum security hospital and pleaded guilty to robbing a man with a BB handgun.
Dion Ray Smith, 29, accepted a 10-year prison sentence for the crime, though he did plead guilty to a lesser charge of robbery, instead of the aggravated robbery charge he originally received.
District Judge Barry Bryan ruled Smith was incompetent to stand trial and had him sent to a hospital, where professionals were able to make him competent.
Lufkin Police arrested Smith in December after he robbed a man walking on the 200 block of East Denman Avenue, taking his money from his pockets. Police were able to arrest him after a short chase.
