LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin police arrest a man for drunk driving with his two young children in tow.
According to Corporal Trent Sobolewski, numerous calls started coming into dispatch Saturday night. They were reporting a possible drunk or reckless driver headed north on 59 towards the loop.
A police officer was finally able to catch up with the man after he drove behind Ashley's Furniture on the southwest side of the loop. His vehicle was found stuck on a large concrete curb.
The report states when the officer approached the car, the driver was heard making growling noises. He quickly handcuffed Rodrick Taylor, 31, and brought him back to the patrol car. The officer tried to talk to him, but described the suspect as being in the advanced stages of intoxication.
The officer, according to the report, went back to the vehicle where he found Taylor's two children, both under the age of ten.
According to LPD, Taylor was coming from Corrigan to Lufkin where he was going to pick their mom up from work. The mother was able to pick-up the children and take them home.
While the officer was still on the scene, Sobolewski says, another driver came by the scene to report Taylor had hit his vehicle at some point prior to him getting stuck in the parking lot. Taylor had apparently just kept going after hitting the other car.
Taylor is charged with DWI with a Child under the age of 15.
