Alexis Spears joined the East Texas News Team May 2011 as a video journalist. She is excited and enthusiastic about joining us here in Lufkin and the surrounding areas.
Alexis graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor's Degree major in Broadcast News and Spanish.
Throughout college, she reported, produced, and anchored the weekly university newscast, UTA News. She continued developing her journalism skills while interning at KCBI Radio and CBS 11/ KTVT News in Dallas/Fort Worth. Upon completion of graduation, she accepted a position at WOAY, an ABC affiliate in West Virginia. There, she worked as a reporter, anchor, and producer.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alexis spent most of her life in the DFW metroplex, where her mom, dad, brother, and two sisters still reside. Thus, she is ecstatic to be back in the great state of Texas.
Alexis is a proud member of the Dallas Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She is also quite active in the community as a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, and the National Association of Black Journalists. She has a long list of community service projects, missions and community involvement.
When not out on the beat, Alexis enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and shopping. She also loves playing with her Yorkie, Ginger, and her Chihuahua, Madison.
Alexis says she lives by the quote, "I can do all things through Him, who gives me strength".
Broadcasting is a integral part of Alexis' life. She is committed to providing effective, responsible information. She loves to hear others' stories and share the stories people want and need to hear. Her sparkling personality is an asset.
