San Francisco Giants management sticking with Brandon Belt

Posted: Updated:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (KTRE) -

According to msnbc sports Giants general manager Brian Sabean confirmed that Brandon Belt will not be sent to the minors. After reports last night that Belt would be sent down in order to clear room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters for Carlos Beltran, Sabean confirmed today that Belt will stay with the club.

Beltran is expected to be in the line-up tonight for San Francisco against the Philadelphia Phillies. Meanwhile, Belt's role will remain the same. Instead the Giants have decided to designate Bill Hall for assignment in Triple-A.

According to a report on MLB.com the Giants have agreed to send right-handed pitching prospect Zack Wheeler to the New York Mets in exchange for Carlos Beltran and cash. The reports also say the Mets will pay $4 million of the $6.5 million Beltran is owed for the 2011 season.

Belt has four hits in 12 at-bats, including a home run on his first night back, since rejoining the big club earlier this month. With the addition of Beltran and Aubrey Huff still around to cover first base, he is still not expected to get much playing time.
