RUSK, TX (KTRE) - Rusk Police are seeking the public's help in information on a pickup driver who knocked down a telephone pole, leading to a motorcyclist getting injured in a crash.

According to a Rusk Police report, a Dodge truck driver struck a telephone pole on U.S. 69, in the Rusk city limits, knocking down the pole and line with the cable falling in the road.

Within just a few minutes, a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Mark Edward Schnackenberg, 44, of Gonzales, La., struck the cable, causing him to lose control and crashing in the road. Schnackenberg was taken to a Tyler hospital, where he is in critical condition with head injuries.

Schnackenberg, who was not wearing a helmet, is a welder working on the power plant in Sacul. He was staying at the KOA campground in Rusk and was on his way to work when he wrecked. He was planning on moving to Florida on Friday, according to the report.

Rusk Police are asking for the public's help in locating a 2003-2009 Dodge truck. It is a 3/4- or 1-ton truck and has damage to the passenger side, with the mirror missing and a broken window.

Due to evidence at the scene, Chief Joe Evans said it is believed the truck has a welding bed or steel bed instead of a regular bed.

"A regular bed would have left paint on that pole," Evans said. "But it just shattered that pole."

Evans said the truck was heading southbound to Lufkin or even as far as Houston.

Anyone with information about the Dodge truck should call Rusk Police at 903-683-2677.
