New traffic signal to begin operation in Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

TxDot Press Release

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is advising motorists to use caution when traveling thru the intersection of West Austin (FM 2609) and Old Tyler Road (FM 1638). On Friday, August 5, 2011, the existing traffic control will be changed to a fully-operational traffic signal.

The signal equipment will operate in flash mode until Friday morning. That's when TxDOT's contractor will place the new signal in full operation. The new signal will have steel poles with mast arms, video detection and audible pedestrian push buttons. Drivers will also see new pavement throughout the intersection. The new signal is expected to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

TxDOT urges motorists to use caution when traveling through the intersection. Motorists should expect to see workers doing final inspections and cleanup in the area for the next few weeks.  Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
