Man injured, but no arrests in Sabine Co. shooting

SABINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Hemphill man is recovering from a gun shot wound to the leg. It happened in a rural part of Sabine County on Beaver Creek Road.

According to Chief Deputy Tony Miller, the victim, Carlos Campos, 35, was raising a ruckus when disabled vet David Standridge, 55 of Hemphill, tried to calm him down.

Campos hit Standridge with a stick. Standridge pulled out his gun, and fired at the ground to keep him away.

He didn't move, so he shot again, but Miller says the bullet accidentally hit Campos' leg. He was airlifted to a Longview hospital, but the injury isn't serious.

No one arrested, but Miller says they're investigating whether Campos was on drugs.
