LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man is behind bars after allegedly trying to evade arrest during a Saturday night DWI traffic stop.

According to the police report, an officer responded to a drunk driver call at the Polk's convenience store on N. Raguet.  When he arrived at the scene, the driver, Billy Evans, allegedly tried to leave the parking lot.

When the officer tried to stop Evans, the report states he kept going and ran a red light.  He, then, allegedly turned onto a private, dirt driveway, and had a minor collision with a tree.

The report says as Evans was reversing away from the tree, the officer yelled, "Stop, stop, stop."  Evans allegedly responded by saying he wouldn't stop until he was at home.

According to police, home was 50 feet away.  Evans allegedly stopped behind his mother's house on the 3800 block of highway 103 west.  He was arrested for Evading Arrest and DWI.
