NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Acres of land, shoes, flower pots -- you name it, they have it. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office hosted their auction preview and pre-registration at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center on Friday.

Justin Simon came from out of state to visit a local friend. They and other bidders have one thing on their minds: a good deal.

"I'm very excited. This is my first sheriff's auction, so I just want to see what they have," said Justin Simon of Arkansas.

On Saturday, the Sheriff's Office will auction-off cars, tires, and even old cell phones they've collected over the past seven years. Most of the items being auctioned were seized or taken through foreclosure. Courts finally gave approval to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office to proceed with selling these items.

"It obviously frees up quite a large amount of space around my office," said Sheriff Thomas Kerss. "It makes the county some money that we can offset some of our other expenses. And, it hopefully offers some good deals to the citizens."

At Friday evening's preview, Simon was combing the tables, looking to cart something back with him.

"[A slot machine] looks kind of neat and a couple guns I saw coming in looked kind of nice," said Simon.

Even the Sheriff's wife was out, looking to buy their daughter a new ride.

"She's needing a car, so we're looking at maybe possibly the Expedition or a pickup truck," said Codi Kerss.

Sheriff Kerss says the sale came at a good time.

"With the county being in some pretty physical strains in this upcoming budget year, this money will definitely play a part in helping meet some of those budget needs."

A preview beings at 7:30 Saturday morning, with the first bid at 8:30 a.m.
