LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police have arrested a man in connection to the death of his wife.
Authorities say Jesse Robert Huerta, 48, was drinking and driving when he lost control of his motorcycle, killing his wife.
Lufkin Police obtained a warrant after their investigation of the crash that occurred around 12:15 a.m. on June 03, 2011. The wreck at intersection of East Frank Avenue and Lufkin Avenue killed Jesse's wife, 42-year-old Maria Huerta.
Police said Huerta turned himself in on Saturday. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
Huerta, was driving a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle, with his wife, Maria riding on the seat behind him. Police said he lost control and entered a landscaped median, striking some shrubbery before flipping the motorcycle.
Maria was transported to Memorial Hospital where she died.
The arrest affidavit stated around midnight, the couple had left a Lufkin nightclub, headed home when they crashed.
Neither were wearing a helmet at the time.
Officers at the scene said Huerta smelled of alcohol. He was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the wreck, and he willingly provided a blood sample. Results showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 grams.
Huerta bonded out of the Angelina County Jail on Saturday.
