Fires have Nacogdoches Co. authorities considering road closures, evacuations

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County firefighters have managed to contain fires on FM 204 and in the North Redland community.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said a fire on FM 204 jumped the highway and was burning on both sides and threatened to force authorities to close the highway and evacuate homes.

A second fire in the North Redland community threatened several homes, but in the end only cause minor damage to one.

Both fires were contained with a plowed line by 5 p.m.

Kerss said firefighters were also busy with a smaller blaze on Woden Road and one in the city of Cushing.

Kerss estimated the two fires covered at least five acres.

He said firefighters and Texas Forest officials are still with the fire to watch the containment line and to extinguish hot spots.
