Motorist hits, kills Jasper highway worker


A highway flagger died Wednesday morning after a Buna driver hit him while trying to avoid crashing into another vehicle on a highway stop in Jasper County.

Michael Allen Lorie, 24, of Jasper, was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m.

According to the DPS report, Danielle Lee Williams was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer northbound on FM 105 at the Westico Mill entrance at 8:04 a.m. when she swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of her and drove onto the shoulder and hit Lorie, who was flagging traffic.
