LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police arrested a man Monday afternoon after he allegedly chased his cousin with a knife before trying to carjack an elderly person.
Darryle Dwayne Jones, 21, of Lufkin, is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
According to the police report, Jones chased his cousin with a knife on McGregor Drive then tried to carjack an unrelated victim on Duren Street.
A 90-year-old man told police that he was backing out of his driveway when he saw Jones walking toward him. The man said he asked Jones why he was outside, running on such a hot day, when Jones pulled a knife and ordered him to get out of his vehicle. The man said he started to drive away when Jones jumped into his window and made stabbing motions with the knife. The man said he drove through a ditch, into a yard and then back through the ditch to the road, finally dislodging Jones from the vehicle.
Jones ran away, according to the report. Officers chased after Jones to a parking lot in the 900 block of Camp Street, where they had to use a Taser device to subdue and arrest him.
The elderly victim suffered a lacerated elbow during the attack, but it is described as a skin tear, not a cut or stab injury, suffered by Jones striking him.
Lufkin Fire personnel treated him at the scene.
