Center police arrest man for allegedly robbing liquor store

CENTER, TX (KTRE) - Center police have arrested a man accused of robbing a liquor store.

Police said on Tuesday around 2:20 p.m. they received a call to 911 dispatch about an armed robbery at Hope's liquor store on Shelbyville Street.

The suspect allegedly entered in the store, and held the clerk at knife point before he took an undisclosed amount of money.

Detectives believe Lenard Matthews was the suspect. Detectives found Matthews at his residence where he was arrested for unrelated charges.

Center detectives Joey Haley and Stephen Stroud conducted the investigation.

They obtained a search warrant for Matthews' residence, where evidence of the crime was recovered.

Lenard Matthews is charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first degree felony.
