Transient man sought in connection to Lufkin death investigation

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

As part of their investigation into the death of Joy Yvonne Bybee, Lufkin Police Department detectives are attempting to locate Winfred Kilgore, also known as "Monty" Kilgore.

Bybee's body was discovered August 11, 2011 beneath a bridge at Chestnut Village shopping center in Lufkin, Texas. The cause of her death has not been determined.

The detectives do not have information that suggests Winfred Kilgore was involved in the circumstances leading to Ms. Bybee's death. The detectives do, however, know that Mr. Kilgore was with Ms. Bybee the previous day and believe that he may possess information that will assist in determining her actions prior to her death.

Winfred Kilgore, an East Texas-area transient with past arrests in Beaumont and along the Highway 59 corridor between Longview and Polk County, is 55 years old, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and weighs approximately 175 pounds. Mr. Kilgore frequents homeless shelters and truck stops, usually carries a small bedroll on a shoulder strap, and may be in possession of a yellow backpack with shoulder and chest straps.

Anyone with information concerning the current welfare or location of Winfred Kilgore is urged to immediately contact Lufkin Police Department at (936) 633-0356.
