ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested a Diboll woman Monday on an accusation that she had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.
Natalie Deshan Johnson, 32, is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the boy told investigators he had sex with Johnson three times at Ewing Park at the State Highway 103 East bridge and three or four times at her apartment in Diboll.
According to the affidavit, the boy was staying with his grandparents on Aug. 6 and 7 when they told his parents that he was missing. The boy told his parents that he had slipped away from their residence and Johnson picked him up and took him to his apartment, where he stayed the night of Aug. 6 and had sex with her that night and the next morning. She dropped him off in Moffett later that day, where he called his grandfather to pick him up, he said.
The boy's parents then questioned him about his disappearance, and he told them about his sexual relationship with Johnson.
The boy gave the same statements in interviews with sheriff's office investigators and at the Angelina Alliance for Children.
"With a man having sex with a child it's very heavily frowned upon, but not so much as a female having a sexual relationship with a child," Angelina County Sheriff's Office Investigator Donald Carroll said.
The boy told investigators they communicated through cell phone text messages and calls.
"I think the texting and the cell phone actually creates a fantasy and so it builds feelings in the brain that are not reality-based and it probably makes it easier to develop feelings because that child is not in front of them and they kind of get things confused a little bit," Licensed Professional Counselor Doctor Debra Burton said.
Phone records showed more than 1,500 calls and text messages to and from the boy's phone to Johnson's phone.
"What we need to recognize is that our increased technology although helpful can keep us in contact with our kids, also creates a lot more vulnerability and they have also become secret paths for predators to gain your child's trust, to actually stimulate feelings in that child that they're not able to handle," Burton said.
Johnson was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Monday, where as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, she was waiting for a bail amount.
"In this case alone, just hearing this young man talk about how he's messed up in the head over these incidents with her, he's going to have to have counseling and hopefully they can help him get past this, but it did affect him," Carroll said.
