SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A San Augustine man is charged with attempted murder, according the San Augustine Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said, William "Billy" Riggs was arrested for a shooting incident that happened back in January.
Sheriff's deputies conducted a search warrant on Monday, at the mobile home of William Riggs on FM 83 near Broaddus.
They also had a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder.
The incident happened back in January, the victim, David Jacks went over to Riggs' home to borrow some money, investigators said Riggs shot through the mobile home hitting Jacks in the foot.
During the initial investigation, Riggs gave investigators an AKS rifle and shell casings he said he used to shoot Jacks.
But recent concluded results from the Department of Public Safety showed Riggs gave them a different gun. After analyzing the evidence DPS officials said they found the shell casings came from the same gun, but the gun wasn't the one Riggs gave deputies at the time of the investigation.
The results are what lead deputies back to Riggs' home, on Monday to search for another ASK rifle. Deputies said they then discovered 30 firearms in the home.
One was reported stolen from Houston back in 1992.
Deputies also arrested, Jody Begley, he lives with Riggs' daughter at a separate residence on the property where the search warrant was executed. Begley was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, in an unrelated case.
