BEAUMONT, TX (KTRE) -

A trial date has been reset for 17 Angelina County residents accused of taking part in a meth manufacturing ring.

Jury selection and trial are set for Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the federal courthouse in Lufkin.

The final pre-trial hearing is Oct. 3. Any more motions for continuance have to be filed by Sept. 19.

The 17 defendants are actually named in two separate indictments, with four in one and the other 13 in another.

In the case of USA vs. Dunman et al, Al Charanza, the attorney for David Arthur Dunman Jr., 52, filed the motion for continuance, with no objection from federal prosecutors.

Charanza stated in the motion that he would like additional time to investigate the nature of the charges and negotiate a possible plea agreement, among other reasons.

In USA vs. Loving et al, John McElroy, the attorney for Gary Justin Kelley, 26, requested the continuance to also negotiate an agreement with the government, as well as to have more time to investigate the allegations.

This motion was also granted with no objection from federal prosecutors.

All 17 defendants are accused in a July 20 indictment alleging they bought pseudophedrine from various pharmaceutical stores in East Texas.
