DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) – Volleyball season is in full swing for the Diboll Lady Jacks.
"Three varsity games will keep you in the gym for a while, but it was worth it," said Coach Jeremy Stewart, Diboll Lady Jacks, of Tuesday night's performances.
"The Lady Jacks took on Overton in the first match, the #9 ranked team in 1A, and lost in 3 sets 21-25, 20-25, 27-29. It was definitely a battle, and Diboll had many chances to put the game away , but were unable to do so," said Stewart.
Stewart noted Diboll had strong offensive performances from Chassity Walker (9 kills) and Jazzlynn Conway (10 kills, 9 digs) who led the team. "Ivy Acevedo had another strong night, despite a struggling back row, with 22 assists and 8 digs. Also Paige Morgan had 10 digs to lead the back row," noted Stewart.
"In the second game, things picked up as the minutes ticked by. Back row play improved and defense on the net simply dominated. Junior Chassity Walker and Senior Jazzlynn Conway, shut down the Lady Elks, as both young ladies broke their own school record, recording 10 blocks each." Stewart said Jazzlynn Conway also had 9 kills to go along with the blocks.
Other strong performances were Ivy Acevedo with 22 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs. Angel Reyes added 4 aces, 3 kills, 2 digs, and a block. Karah Phipps had 4 kills, 3 digs, 3 blocks. Paige Morgan had 2 aces, and 13 digs, and Cristina Ramos added 12 digs and 2 aces.
The Lady Jacks next match is Friday as they travel to Corrigan-Camden. All 3 teams will play, with Varsity starting at 4:30pm, followed by Red team, then White team.
"Come support the volleyball teams, then head out to support your Lumberjacks," said Stewart.
