Lufkin ISD sets slightly higher tax rate

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Property taxes are on the rise for homeowners in Lufkin Independent School District.  School board members approved a half-cent tax hike at last night's meeting.

Superintendent Roy Knight says the increase will cover what's left of a 2007 bond project.

That project is almost complete, except for some work on the Garrett primary campus.

"The tax rate increase is reflection of that what that means specifically that additional half cent for the owner of a $100,000 home would be an additional roughly four dollars a year," said Knight.

Knight tells us the bond project should be finished by next year.
