VALLEJO, CA (KTRE) - Former Hudson Hornet Brandon Belt met his namesake, six-day-old Brandon the giraffe on Thursday at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif.
Belt and his wife had a private meet-and-greet at the park's giraffe barn. The 6'2" calf and the 6'5" baseball player seemed to hit it off before the calf decided to take a rest and hang out with his mother, Makali.
Makali gave birth to the calf on Friday. The park officials decided to name it after Belt, who a baseball announcer nicknamed "Baby Giraffe" because he said he had the look and awkwardness of the animal.
