ALTO, TX (KTRE) -

A total of six fire departments are battling a blaze that jumped Highway 294. It began  traveling toward Highway 21 near Alto. A car fire is the cause, according to Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell.

As of 5:00 Sunday evening, Highway 294 from the intersection of Farm to Market road 23 at the Neches River to the County Road 2328 intersection remained closed.

"It's difficult to say how many acres are involved," said Campbell. "We have a Texas Forest Service crew on the way."

No homes or structures are believed to be threatened.

Another Cherokee County fire, on Highway 69, occurred Friday night. It caused the evacuation of a deer farm. No structures were lost in that fire, according to Campbell.
