Lufkin Panthers face arch rival Longview this week to close out pre-district play

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Lufkin Panthers are heading into this week with a 3-0 record and on a roll.

The newest Associated Press High School Football Poll has Lufkin ranked 10 in the state, but their opponent this week is by far the best ranked this season.

The Longview Lobos were in the top 10 in the state before being beaten by the #1 Allen Eagles last week.  The rivalry is nasty between Panther Nation and the Lobos and this year the Pack has to travel to Longview.

Coach John Outlaw says it is just another test the Panthers will have to pass before opening district play.  "Jamarcus has got to be big Friday night and he knows that.  He didn't get to play against them last year, so, I know he is excited.  It's a big game.  We need to play somebody good because they are going to prepare us for what we are going to see in district," said Coach Outlaw.

"We don't like them.  They don't like us.  Normally they play a little dirty, but you just have to deal with it," said Judd Mahan, Panther Guard.

"They are going to be the best team we have played so far and I think that is going to be good for us to give us that test right before district starts," said Nick Cox, Panther Quarterback.
