Spurger man killed after hitting construction vehicle

TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Spurger man died Thursday morning after striking a construction vehicle on U.S. 190 in Tyler County.

Ruddle Callaway, 78, died on the scene at 8 a.m.

According to the DPS report, Callaway was driving a 1996 Chevy pickup eastbound at 7:50 a.m. when he drove into a 2001 Dodge pickup construction vehicle, which was driving eastbound on the improved shoulder, 12 miles east of Woodville.

A passenger in Callaway's pickup, Birtie Callaway, 74, of Spurger, is listed in good condition with possible internal injuries at a Beaumont hospital. Both were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Dodge, Federico Huichapa, 25, of Cleburne, is listed in good condition at a Woodville hospital with possible internal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
