Nacogdoches police officer injured in overnight wreck

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches police officer is recovering after being involved in an accident with an alleged drunk driver.

According to authorities, the accident happened just after midnight in the 1400 block of South Street.

A police supervisor said the officer, Sgt. Keith Hawkins, was in his patrol car when another car collided with him. The officer was transported to a Tyler hospital with severe facial and pelvic injuries. He was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

The driver of the other vehicle, Tarcisio Chan-Ramirez, 31, of Nacogdoches, was arrested on a charge of intoxicated assault with a vehicle, a third-degree felony.
