EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -

Memorial Health System of East Texas Press Release

Those planning to attend this year's Power of Pink! luncheon will have the opportunity to purchase their tickets beginning September 29 at the Arthur Temple Regional Cancer Center and Studio 319.  This educational forum, which raises awareness about women and breast cancer, will be held October 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pitser Garrison Civic Center in Lufkin.  Tickets can be purchased for $20 each or a table reserved with a $250 sponsorship. Only 700 tickets are available on a first come first serve basis.  Last year the event sold out within only a few days.

This year's event features Mary Pierce.  Ms. Pierce is a humorist who has been speaking professionally since 1996.  Her presentation invites audiences to laugh along and learn from her comic relief, practical teaching and powerful message of hope and encouragement.  Ms. Pierce is the author of three books of inspirational humor for women When Did I Stop Being Barbie and Become Mrs. Potato Head?, Confessions of a Prayer Wimp and When Did My Life Become a Game of Twister?  In addition, Ms. Pierce has been a humor columnist for Focus on the Family's LifeWise magazine and is a frequent contributor to other Focus publications.

"This event is so special because not only is it a chance for ladies to learn about breast cancer but it is also a chance to celebrate those who are fighting and who have fought breast cancer and any other form of cancer," said Lindsey Mott, Community Relations Specialist at Memorial Health System of East Texas and Power of Pink! Coordinator.  "We hope attendees leave with a sense of empowerment and hope."

The event will also host the 3rd Annual Art Bra Exhibit.  Memorial Health System of East Texas and Abeldt's pharmacy have teamed up again to present The Art Bra Contest in conjunction with Power of Pink!  Members from the community are invited to decorate bras that will be judged and displayed at Power of Pink!  Rules and entry forms can be picked up at Memorial Health System of East Texas, Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center, Abeldt's Pharmacy or online at www.memorialhealth.org.  For more information on the Art Bra Contest please contact Lindsey Mott at 936-639-7613 or Jessica Knight at 936-639-2346.

"We have been able to help so many at the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center from funds raised through the Power of Pink!,"  commented Ms. Mott.  "We would not be able to help this way without the awesome support we receive from the community for this event."

With the continued support of sponsors such as First Bank and Trust East Texas, DAV Auxiliary Unit 84, The Main Event, Studio 319, The Journey Magazine, Angelina County Medical Society, Kwik Kopy Printing, Angelina Home Health, Angelina Surgical Associates, Consolidated Communications, East Texas Hematology and Oncology Clinic, Lufkin Industries, Alexander, Lankford and Hiers, Lufkin Coca-Cola, McKesson and many more, the Power of Pink! continues to reach women in the community spreading the message of hope and encouragement.  This year over 700 women are expected to attend.

Tickets are sold on a "first come, first serve" basis.  Tables of 8 can be reserved with a $250  sponsorship.  Additionally, specially designed bling T-shirts will be sold before and at the event for $25 each.  For more information on the Power of Pink! and how you can become involved contact Lindsey Mott at 936-639-7613 or lmott@memorialhealth.org.  Information also can be found at www.memorialhealth.org or on Facebook group Power of Pink!
