LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Local radio stations, KSWP and KAVX are holding their Fall Sharathon to meet their fundraising goal of 99 thousand dollars.
Operators are sharing a positive message and accepting donations from listeners over the radio and on the web.
The money raised is used for operations and to purchase generators to allow uninterrupted broadcast of both stations.
"So many people are in need of hope. That's our theme this year, give hope a voice, said KSWP and KAVX Program and Music Director, Michelle Ross. "And, so with people losing jobs and the economy being tough, it's just nice to be able to know that I work somewhere that puts out a positive message, a hopeful message. And, it tries to reach out and touch the community."
The Sharathon runs until 6 PM Thursday.
