UPDATE: Teacher killed in motorcycle crash in Smith Co.

ARP, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas teacher has died from injuries received in a wreck near Arp.

According to DPS, around 6:45 am Friday, an oil rig truck was attempting to make a U-turn at the intersection of highway 135 and County Road 251, when a 3-wheeler motorcycle traveling northbound ran up under the trailer of the truck.

The driver of the motorcycle, Jo Meredith was thrown off the bike and the bike ended up in some nearby woods.

She was pronounced dead at a Tyler hospital a short time later.

Mrs. Meredith was a Health Science teacher at Jacksonville High School in the CTE Department. She was beginning her third year teaching at the high school.

Mrs. Meredith was wearing a helmet.

Originally, we reported that the driver would be cited; however,we spoke wtih DPS trooper Jean Dark, who says charges have not been filed, but that does not mean charges have been ruled out.
