LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - According to the police report, officers responded to a call of a one vehicle accident with a pedestrian around 12:12 a.m. at the Taco Bell on South Timberland Drive. While police were on their way to the scene, the vehicle involved in the accident left the scene. Callers were able to describe the vehicle, including the license plate number to authorities.

Upon arrival, a witness described the driver, later identified as Martin Ramirez Jr., 20, of Lufkin, as reckless as the car was speeding and weaving through traffic before the accident. Ramirez turned sharply into the restaurant parking lot and struck a little girl riding a bicycle through the parking lot entrance. Ramirez stopped briefly before getting back in the vehicle and leaving the scene.

Shortly thereafter, Lufkin Police Department saw Ramirez driving in the 100 block of Everett. Ramirez was then stopped and arrested. On scene investigation revealed Ramirez was intoxicated and that he was the driver that fled the scene at Taco Bell.

The 8 year-old girl was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Ramirez Jr. was transported to the Angelina County Jail and booked in for his third offense of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and for Fail to Stop at an Accident Involving Injury.
