GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - The Trinity County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Nigton man in connection to a major theft ring involving tractors and other farm equipment and several jurisdictions in Texas and Louisiana, according to the sheriff.
Sheriff Ralph Montemayor said deputies arrested Freddie Spencer Jr., 49, at his Nigton property after they caught him with a bulldozer reported stolen out of Lufkin.
Montemayor said the theft ring involves up to four people stealing farm equipment from private property and trading it amongst each other in different counties to sell.
"Sometimes they take it and hide it for several months before they try to sell it," Montemayor said.
Montemayor said he is working with law enforcement officials with DPS, Houston County, Brazoria County, Harris County, Angelina County, Nacogdoches County and Desoto Parish in Louisiana to investigate recovering the property and arresting more people.
