Lufkin man arrested for DWI after rollover accident

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man was arrested for DWI after swiping two cars and rolling his vehicle over Saturday night.

According to the report, a witness says she was driving southbound on South First Street at 8:04 p.m. when she noticed a vehicle driving toward her in the wrong direction. She got over to the left to avoid an accident with the other car, but the driver of the car, Christopher Thornton, 24, swiped her car as he passed. She then turned around and proceeded to follow the Thornton after he failed to stop.

As Thornton continued down into the 600 block of South First Street, an SUV turned in front of him at the Denman intersection. He hit the brakes, causing his car to swipe the SUV and roll over.

No injuries were reported. However, when police questioned Thornton about the accident, he reported that he was on his cell phone. Lufkin Police Department also reports that further evaluation revealed he was also intoxicated.

Thornton was booked into the Angelina County Jail.
