PHOENIX (AP) -

Closing arguments are underway in the trial of accused serial killer Mark Goudeau.

Goudeau is charged with nine murders and dozens of other crimes attributed to the so-called Baseline Killer case in 2005 and 2006.

The state started presenting closing arguments around 11 a.m. Monday.

Prosecutor Patricia Stevens did not mince words. She told the jury that Goudeau was a ravenous serial predator that terrorized the Valley for a year starting in the summer of 2005. She likened him to a wolf in sheep's clothing and said the state proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Goudeau was guilty of all 72 counts he faces.

The prosecution reminded jurors about the months of testimony they heard which tied Goudeau to the crimes by eye witnesses, DNA and ballistic testing.

Once the state is done with closings, it will be the defense's turn. That's likely to start Tuesday.

Goudeau pleaded not guilty to the crimes. If he's convicted of murder, the 47-year-old former construction worker could face the death penalty.

Goudeau is already serving a 438-year prison sentence for a 2005 attack. In that case, police say he raped a woman while pointing a gun at her pregnant sister's belly.
