LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man named in a federal grand jury indictment for alleged cocaine activity in Nacogdoches County made an initial appearance on Friday.
Maxie Antione Deckard, 31, requested a court-appointed attorney in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin in Lufkin.
Giblin appointed Berneard Shaw of Beaumont to represent him. He also ordered Deckard to remain in federal custody until a detention hearing on Tuesday.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office arrested Deckard on September 16, 2010, following a raid on a Woden Road home. Deputies reported recovering approximately 50 grams of crack cocaine and $2,600 in cash.
Count Two of the indictment references a September 16 incident. The other offenses allegedly occurred on March 9, 2011, and Aug. 26, 2010. Information on those incidents was not immediately available.
