Lufkin Police arrested a man Sunday after he was reported to have shoplifted from a dollar store and was caught with cocaine.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the Dollar General Store on Atkinson Drive, in reference to a shoplifter. Dispatch told officers that the suspect was in a white Chevy Impala in the parking lot of the store. Two officers arrived at the same time and as they entered the lot, the suspect in the Impala tried to leave by driving between their vehicles, according to the report, even though one had the emergency lights on.

The suspect, Christopher Samuel Williams, 28, almost hit the cars and did not stop until one of the officers yelled at him, according to the report.

The other officer spoke to the store manager, who said she saw Williams walk to the back of the store with baby clothes in his hands. She said she then saw him walk to the front of the store but did not have the clothes and was adjusting the front of his pants. She said she followed him out of the store and asked for the items back. She said he pulled some baby wipes and clothes out of his pants.

Because Williams has two prior theft convictions, he is now charged with a state jail felony of theft.

Inside Williams' car, officers found a metal Altoids box that had rust on the outside. Inside the box was a cocaine rock, according to the report. Police are also charging him with possession of a controlled substance.
