Houston Co. judge resigning for state non-profit position

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - Houston County Judge Lonnie Hunt is resigning his position to take on a career working with counties across the state.

In a letter to the citizens of Houston County, Hunt said he will leave the position no later than December 7 to allow candidates to file for the primary elections.

Hunt will be working with the Texas Association of Counties in Austin, a non-profit corporation which works with Texas counties in education, as a liaison with the Legislature and offers other services.

"This is not a position which I sought in any way," Hunt wrote in the letter. "But it is an excellent opportunity for me, and an advancement in my personal career. And the good news is that I will be able to continue working with and supporting the elected officials of Houston County and all the other counties in Texas."
