5K Walk raises Sexual Assault Awareness

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

East Texans grabbed their tennis shoes and came out to the First Annual 5K Walk for Sexual Assault Awareness.

The goal of this walk was to raise awareness and educate the community of sexual assault violence.

The route took walkers around Nacogdoches.

The Family Crisis Center provided pamphlets and information guides for who to call when in need.

The Family Crisis Center looks to continue hosting this event.

"I'm really excited that we have so much community involvement," said Primary Prevention Coordinator, Ashley Thompson, with the Family Crisis Center. "We're really lucky to have such a supportive community of both our safe coalition and our agency."

The event lasted Saturday morning from 8 am to noon.

The Family Crisis Center says it's important to get the word of prevention and where to seek help out to everyone.
