LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Heather Kartye is excited to see the donations already coming in.
"I'm always amazed at the generosity in this community, and we're so grateful," said Family Crisis Center Interim Executive Director, Heather Kartye.
The Lufkin Gypsy Club hosted a toy and donation drive this weekend in preparation for the holidays. Kartye hopes this will create a special Christmas for her clients.
"Many of our clients and their children don't have the resources to provide Christmas for their families," said Kartye.
The Lufkin gypsies partner with other area gypsies to collect donations from the community, beginning in October, to give to those in need.
"Any donation, whether it's toys or food or just strictly money, they need that because there's lots of families this time of the year that are in need," said Lufkin Gypsy Club former president, Billy Burch.
This is the second year the club has partnered with the Family Crisis Center for the toy drive. The Family Crisis Center says last year the gypsies provided Christmas for over 40 families, through toys and 500 dollars cash.
"Anything we can do to help them out and put a smile on these kids face, every year, it's a blessing," said Burch.
Kartye says she looks forward to seeing the kids' smiles this Christmas when Santa Claus makes his appearance, along with the toy donations. Until then, the gifts are stored in a safe place.
"Santa Claus will be keeping those toys under lock and key until it is Christmas morning," said Kartye.
Kartye says donations can be sent to the Family Crisis Center.
