Suspected Drunk Driver Charged with Intoxicated Assault

One man is hospitalized and another is in jail after what police say appears to be a drunk driving accident.

Marcus Ray Harrelson of Lufkin is charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle.
The accident happened on Farm to Market road 841, just a few miles outside loop 287 in Lufkin.

According to police reports, Harrelson was speeding when he ran off the road. A passenger in his car, Russell Robertson, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He's listed in stable condition.

Empty beer bottles and demolished street signs could be seen at the scene of the accident.

Blood tests have been done on Harrelson to determine if he was drunk at the time of the wreck, but the results have not come back yet.

He's being held on $7500 bond and has been ordered not to drive any motor vehicle unless it's equipped with a certified breathalyzer.

Police say Al Meyer Ford, which owns the car Harrelson was driving, has filed a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle against him.  Harrelson works as a salesman at the dealership.

Court records show Harrelson was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2001. He was also charged with d-w-i in 19-99, but that case was dismissed.
