Rig/pickup wreck kills Nacogdoches man

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man died Wednesday morning after he struck an 18-wheeler on State Highway 21 near Douglass.

The Department of Public Safety temporarily closed that section of the highway as troopers investigate. It was re-opened around noon.

According to the report, the accident occurred around 7 a.m. Wednesday when the driver of the 18-wheeler, Douglas H. Ayala, 43, of Houston, apparently lost control of his vehicle, went into the westbound lane and hit an oncoming Chevy pickup truck, driven by Daniel W. Rhodes, 63, of Nacogdoches. Rhodes died on the scene.

Ayala is listed in good condition at a Nacogdoches hospital.
