No. 18 Houston looks to stay perfect

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Cougars control how long they practice on "perfect-play" Thursdays.

No ball is allowed to touch the ground, either on a dropped pass or a fumble, as the team runs through its playbook. If it happens, coach Kevin Sumlin orders his team to run the play again.

That rule almost seemed to be in place last Saturday, when Case Keenum and the No. 18 Cougars (7-0, 3-0 Conference USA) rang up 621 yards in a 63-28 win over Marshall. Keenum became the Football Bowl Subdivision's career leader in total offense while completing 24 of 28 passes - 15 in a row in one stretch.

Keenum and the nation's top offense figure to have another big day against in-city rival Rice (2-5, 1-3) on Thursday night.
