LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police Wednesday night arrested a Huntington man accused of driving into the fountain at the Crown Colony subdivision and running away from the scene.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Champions Drive and Crown Colony Drive at 8:52 p.m. When they arrived, they saw a red Ford pickup had crashed into the water fountain.
A witness of the crash said they say the truck was stopped at the entrance to the neighborhood and was blocking the entrance. He then drove away at a high speed and on the wrong side of the road on Champions Drive, according to the witness. The witness followed the truck and reported seeing it hit the water fountain, then saw the drive run away from the area and into the woods.
Officers searched the woods but did not find the driver until about 30 minutes later, when an officer found Randy Lynn Moody, 40, in the parking lot of the country club, soaking wet, according to the report.
Moody told officers he drove into the fountain because he was not paying attention, according to the report. The officer did not detect signs of intoxication, but booked him into the Angelina County Jail for failure to remain at scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor.
Moody was released on a $1,500 bail Wednesday night.
Moody was arrested in April for the same charge. According to the arrest report, Moody drove into a yard on the 800 block of South First Street and struck part of the concrete steps and porch of the residence.
