In the SFA Lumberjacks' 57-21 win last week over Nicholls the 'Jacks defense had 4 turnovers, 9 sacks and held the Colonels offense to less than 150 yards. Linebacker Devin Ducote had two of those turnovers himself, a fumble recovery and interception. Ducote may not have much time left at SFA but he wants to go out with a bang.
"I only have four games left obviously I want to try to play my best ball my senior year," said Ducote. "This is going to be the end of my career so it is important to me to go out playing good football and help this team win as many games as we can."
His head coach JC Harper has seen Ducote's value to the team grow every year.
"Devin brings a lot of comfort because he just has a lot of experience, knowledge and loves to play the game," said Harper. "He is tough, he is a winner and the players understand that. It helps them go, it helps them all play better."
Like most college seniors he is beginning to realize the dream of college is almost over, but he says he has a plan to stay with football for as long as possible.
"The real world is about to hit me in the face, so I am a little worried about that<" said Ducote. I'm going to try to finish up grad school first and maybe help out SFA for a little bit and see how that goes. Then I will try to catch on at maybe a small college at this level for a few years and learn as much as I can then maybe go back to the high school ranks."
So future coach and senior linebacker Devin Ducote is your 'Jack of the week.
